This week saw the start of our local Housing Needs Assessment Survey.
What is this survey?
The Housing Needs Assessment Survey is about gaining an understanding of the conditions of houses in our rohe, including the energy efficiency, and health & safety conditions of homes.
We also want to understand what information whānau would find helpful in order to maintain a healthy home. Of real importance too, is understanding our local whānau Housing aspirations.
Why is this important?
We want to help improve the housing standards in our rohe. To do this, we need a plan and our plan needs to be formed from community information.
We can gather information on the housing facts and STATS in our area (as collected by the census, Statistics NZ). But we want to also gather our own kōrero on housing – our STORIES. This will enable us to use the STATS & STORIES to then develop our own community SOLUTIONS for Housing.
The findings of the survey will help inform a Housing action plan for the Ruapehu Whānau Transformation project team.
The information will help us to identify the correct areas of need in relation to Housing, to then
prioritise our efforts and any resources we can secure.
How will this survey happen?
Our team of collectors will be out, knocking on doors, conducting the surveys across the communities of Raetihi, Ohākune and Waiouru. We aim to complete at least 100 surveys by the end of August.
If you would like to participate in the survey, please contact us on 06-385 9500 or at
firstname.lastname@example.org and provide your name, address and contact details. A collector will confirm with you a suitable time to complete the survey in your home.
